- Lying on the Essex creeks and inlets of the River Blackwater they are a reminder of the area's maritime past. Marshland bordering the estuary has been reclaimed for agriculture but still much remains to preserve the wildlife with the creeks and inlets of the Blackwater and Crouch providing havens for yachts and pleasure craft. Not far away is Maldon, a beautiful town with fishing boats and stately old Thames barges which throng the Hythe, and houses which date back to medieval times line the High Street. To the East is Burnham on Crouch with its quayside boatyard and old inns, which echo with nautical talk in the Cowes of the East Coast.

* At roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the B1018 (signposted Cold Norton, Latchingdon, Fambridge).
* At Purleigh Wash continue forward onto the B1010, at Palepit Corner mini-roundabout turn left onto the B1018.
